First session of our Career Mentoring talks
We are very excited to have started our series of Career Mentoring talks.
The first session was about Agricultural Science. Why Agricultural science? Through our Connecting the Climate Challenge, that links schools from the UK with schools in Nepal to tackle the climate crisis together, we found out that a significant number of the students from our Nepali partner schools are now interested in starting their careers in environmental fields, including Agriculture, with the idea of tackling food insecurity and implementing sustainable agriculture practises in Nepal. So we thought that it would be a good idea to bring together different Nepalese professionals from the Agriculture field that studied in different campuses around Nepal to give information to the young minds to help them plan their future careers.
During the 1h online zoom session speakers shared about their career paths through an engaging presentation. The speakers for the first Career Mentoring talk that took place on Friday 28th of June at 6.00 am UK time/10.45 am Nepal time are:
Dibya Bhatta: Bachelor of Science in agriculture at IAAS Paklihawa 2015-2019, merit scholarship. She pursued her master’s of Science in Agriculture at Kyungpook National University (2021-2023), under a fully funded Korean government scholarship. Her master’s research was about abiotic stress (heavy metal stress in rice) and this work is published in the journal of Ecotoxicology and Environmental Safety. Dibya has recently been awarded a full scholarship to pursue her PhD research on ‘Wheat pathogen Zymoseptoria tritici’ at the Australian National University. She also makes videos about scholarships and travels for her YouTube channel.
Aastha Adhikari: Bachelor of Science in Agriculture at Tribhuvan University, Lamjung Krishi Campus. Aastha identifies herself as a passionate agriculture educator. She have been engaged in various education and training-related agricultural projects since 2018, and currently, she is serving as the program coordinator and agriculture instructor for a plant science school in Bhojpur District, Nepal.
Gaurav Adhikari: Bachelors of Science in Agriculture from Agriculture and Forestry University, Rampur, Chitwan.
Gaurav is currently a graduate student pursuing his Masters degree in Biotechnology from the Central Department of Biotechnology, Kirtipur, Kathmandu. He is also affiliated with the Research Institute for Bioscience and Biotechnology (RIBB) since 2021.
Ankit Sah: Bachelors of Science in Agriculture from Agriculture and Forestry University, Rampur, Chitwan. Being from Janakpur, the terai area of Nepal, Ankit was always surrounded by agriculture. What took his to this very course was the same curiosity to know more about agricultural practices and reach out to most of the farmers. Right now he is working as an intern at the Research Institute for Biotechnology and Bioscience (RIBB).
